Pros

Promising pipeline and ability to improve cancer treatment options for Chinese patients, competitive compensation and benefits (incl. stock), nice US offices

Cons

Employees in China, CA, MA results in frequent off-hours calls and an incredible volume of emails. Communication is expected during vacations, weekends, and holidays - impossible to get a true break. Limited insulation from the pressures of upper management. Structure is very lean, workload increases faster than structural scaling, lack of processes. No acknowledgement of (or training in how to approach) cross-cultural communication challenges. Some very talented people and ability to impact China pharmaceutical market, but the focus is primarily execution over work-life balance and career development.

Coworkers are great. Executives are not.

Pros

-coworkers and colleagues are great for the most part. Most people are willing to help. -free snacks, meals, and office events depending on which office you work at. -4 weeks vacation for all new employees. -can work remotely depending on which office you work at and which department you’re in. -stock awards annually which is better than previous companies that I’ve worked at. -multiple late-stage assets in the pipeline with ability to change/improve lives for patients. -growing company.

Cons

-absolutely no work/life balance. Huge workload and calls at all hours of the day & night. Executives don’t care to address this or fix this. I know multiple people have left because of this. -expected to work during your vacation. Not only do I get emails, texts, and calls during the one vacation that I’ve taken, but I also see others emailing all throughout their “vacations”. -executives (VP and above) are very disconnected from their employees. Either that or they just don’t care. -company values are not accurate at all. -benefits are OK at best. Health insurance is fine, 401k match is low, not all employees are eligible for stock program, not many perks that are standard in the industry. -extremely hierarchical company. Some of us travel 50% but if we’re not VP level then we’re forced to fly economy and that includes 16 hour flights to and China.

Pros

BeiGene is quite different from any other biotech. It only started in 2010 and so it's crazy to think of everything that's been accomplished in such a short time. The pipeline rivals any big pharma, with 50+ trials for a broad number of potential indications. The mindset of quality is pervasive - it's part of everything and makes the company unique from other companies rooted in China. The work we do really will have an impact on patients so we work hard and one of the things I like most is that, while I'm working harder than I have at any other previous company, my colleagues are working equally as hard and there's a sense of camaraderie, support and understanding. I genuinely like (almost) everyone I work with. It's a good atmosphere, flexible schedule (though my advice is that people need to set their own boundaries and advocate for themselves rather than depend on management to recognize if there's an imbalance). I've found management, HR, the execs, etc., to be supportive and demonstrative of how they value my work and my experience in the industry.

Cons

There are challenges stemming from how fast we are growing. I think that's inevitable and it seems to be being addressed.
