Pros

I loved working and playing with the kids. Most of my families were very open and accommodating, as were the daycare centers I worked in. Most of my case managers were very accessible and helpful whenever I ran into an issue or had a question for them.

Cons

The management at Beacon is horrid. It was extremely difficult to get in contact with Regional Directors, and even when I did contact them, they were usually unhelpful. It would sometimes literally be weeks before I e-mails were replied to or issues were resolved. Overall, lack of communication between the varying levels of staff was my biggest issue at the company.

Pros

Flexible schedule, advancement opportunities, working with children, tuition reimbursement to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, mileage reimbursement

Cons

This is not a consistent job. Clients are constantly cancelling sessions. Because the position is "fee for service", this means that you were not paid for cancelled sessions. There is poor communication among supervisors and other Early Intervention Speciualists. There was a number of times when a parent would cancel and notify a supervisor but the parent and supervisor would fail to notify me as well. This resulted in me travling miles to clients home only to find out they cancelled/were not home. Total waste of time. Some supervisors want you to do EVERYTHING their way. Leaves no room to develop repor with children or develop your own teaching skills. Alot of take home work that you were not paid for. You have to do and submit your own timesheets. If you made even the slightest error, your pay will be witheld until the following pay period Some clients homes are filthy and smell bad If you dont have access to a computer, this position is not for you.

Pros

Great, supportive environment and opportunities for education. Big emphasis on training and providing data based observations and feedback. Movement within the company or regional area is encouraged. The families and students are wonderful. Supervisory staff are very helpful with materials and ideas. I always get help when I ask for it. There is sometimes pay for extra projects if there are frequent cancellations

Cons

Working in home-based can be isolating sometimes and there is a lot of travel. If there is a cancellation it is not always easy to find another place to go.
