Pros

Tuition reimbursement Opportunities for career growth BCBAs and Regional directors who genuinely care about their staff Options for when clients cancel (retention time) Large support network Knowledge BCBAS

Cons

Really long days. Sometimes you leave your house at 7:30 a.m. and you don't get home until 6:30 p.m. only to have six hours that you can bill for all that time. Also the office in Leominster is poorly stocked at best. There are little to no materials available and it has been like that for at least a year.

Pros

Families and children (only reason why I stayed so long). You build relationships with children and families that will last a life time. It's so amazing to see the progress.

Cons

Where do I begin? Beacon ABA Services does not care about their ABT/BT position staff. All who matters at this company are those with a BCBA. Supervisors are not professional and they are honestly very rude. There are NO benefits for ABT/BT staff and we're the people doing most of the work, even work the BCBA should be doing. There is no PTO and getting 30 hours a week is impossible with the amount of cancellations and we don't get paid for cancellations. You will be gone all day ( I was gone 7AM-6PM) and I would only get paid for about 6 of those hours. There is SO much work outside of work that I would have to miss out on dinner with my family or spend weekends making materials and completing reports and during this time you're not getting paid. You are going to put a lot of miles on your car, you get reimbursed for some of the miles but not all of them. The communication is very poor between supervisors and staff. If you are someone who has a lot of bills or responsibilities with children/family then I would not apply to this company. You will be making poverty level money. I would apply to this company if your husband can hold the family and you're looking for a rewarding side job. You will still have to deal with the unprofessional-ism and will have to spend a lot of time outside of work to complete other tasks.

Pros

The actual work is very rewarding. The children and families that you'll work with almost make dealing with the company worth it. Flexible schedules are available and Beacon provides opportunities for advancement and education.

Cons

If you're an ABT or BT your pay will be inconsistent at best since these are fee for service positions. Supervisors vary depending on region but mine was unsupportive, at times rude, and nearly impossible to communicate with. People are given management positions based on clinical licensure and certification alone rather than actually having skills necessary to manage people. There is very little support even though working in homes can be physically and emotionally draining. There is no respect and no appreciation for those in ABT or BT positions. In these roles, you are replaceable and the company treats you as such. I would never recommend working for Beacon, unless maybe you're in a salaried position.
