Pros

The scheduling department is well run similar to a customer call center. The schedulers are constantly refining there practices and receive ongoing training. Working with clients directly and seeing the progress that is made. Most people were friendly and really cared about their clients Benefits and compensation are within norms for the industry. PTO is generous and encouraged. Decent work life balance.

Cons

This company is not the place to be if you want to build a long term career in the ABA field. The CEO has zero executive presence and does not visit clinical sites outside of the main office. Leadership is completely lacking in this regard and leaves the company without a clear mission, company culture or values . The company is also quite top heavy with Directors and Assistant Directors who do essentially the same job, have the same qualifications , and overall do not know how to lead there departments and furthermore, most do not have the clinical expertise you would assume that goes with there job titles. A newly minted BCBA or someone pursuing there BCBA hours would have a extremely difficult time getting the appropriate guidance or mentorship needed to be successful. In addition, the company has a business model that seems unsustainable in some regions. They seem to only be able to capture afternoon and late evening clients that leave most behavior instructors with well under their desired number of hours per week and makes it nearly impossible for supervisors to properly do there job because all the clients are at the exact same time and typically far apart distance wise. Many companies in the ABA field face this challenge, but seem to be able to manage it better. Caseload planning is non existent and pretty much left up to the luck of the draw. Turnover is EXTREMELY high across positions , even for the ABA field. Lack of leadership and meaningful training outside of having a power point read to you by the "clinical leadership" is concerning. Bear in mind not a single Psy.D or Ph.D level clinician works at this company. If you are interested in conducting research it will be difficult for you to find a competent mentor. Lastly, HR practices are flimsy at best at this company. They are not easily available as a resource for employees to voice concerns about management. Clinical Management frequently terminates employees with questionable documentation or conducts write ups with minimal consultation from HR , typically its a brief phone call and that is it. Clinical management also promotes people based on favoritism and not merit.

Behavior Frontiers Response

Interestingly, just like your post, we had a former case manager in Los Angeles who worked at Behavior Frontiers full-time for more than 3 years, who had this to say about Behavior Frontiers just this month: ”I have enjoyed working for Behavior Frontiers in the past six years and value my experience here. Thank you for the opportunity to be able to contribute to your mission, to develop my own professional skill sets, and to get involved in the growth of Behavior Frontiers in a variety of ways. I am truly proud of what the company has accomplished and to have been part of the team. I will be forever grateful for your continued trust in me and for seeing me as a valuable member of the company over the years.” With regard to your Glassdoor post, we would also like to give kudos to our scheduling team! They work so hard and I love to see them getting this positive review! We are also glad that you recognized that our employees are able to have an appropriate work-life balance. This has always been important to us, which is why we keep our caseload ratios so reasonable. Additionally, at Behavior Frontiers, we have BCBAs who have made a career with us for over a decade, as well as a doctorate level BCBA on our team! We provide annual updates on company-wide goals and progress so that our team members understand how they are contributing to our mission. Our BCBA directors have experience in our field and are also provided with ongoing training to effectively perform their position. As for those who want to earn their BCBA, we offer regional study groups and ongoing mentorship. In this last testing period alone, we are proud to announce that many of our employees passed the BCBA exam and received subsequent promotions across 5 of our different regions! Furthermore, we have a proven, successful business model, which is why we continue to open new office locations – our newest one being Temecula! With regard to daytime hours, we have many school district contracts, which allow many behavior instructors to work full-time during the day. With regard to turnover, ours is very low for management and administrative team members. In addition, our turnover for behavior instructors continues to decrease due to the implementation of new initiatives, such as our liaison program. We are constantly looking at additional ways to improve in this area through additional incentives, competitive pay and wage increases, and through our Quality Improvement Program. In the area of training, we are proud to offer comprehensive trainings across our clinical positions. Our HR department is quite large, in that we have 4 team members available to address employee issues. As for our HR practices, they were designed with consultation from our employment attorney, who is regularly consulted on issues such as terminations. Finally, promotions to manager and supervisor in our company are based on employees reaching certain goals, such as getting their master’s degree and/or their BCBA, which we encourage through various partnerships with universities to offer discounts to our employees pursing these goals! We wish you the best in your future!

Pros

Good ABA training, you get a budget for materials to spend on clients. Some supervision. Large company with many locations.

Cons

Little support for the employee from the company, secretive and vague about any issues, scheduling is a problem for clients and employees, not a welcoming environment for employees to come with concerns. Lack of clarity for expectations as an employee.
