Pros

excellent benefits, great culture, fabulous co-workers. This is easily one of the best places to work in Austin, especially in Tech Support

Cons

Starting to become more bureaucratic. A "council" has been set up for Tech Support employees to have a voice, but it seems largely ineffectual. Good idea, bad implementation. Sometimes it feels like numbers are more important than individuals. Morale seems low at entry level.

In Hyper Growth Mode

Pros

Bigcommerce is a company that lives by its Core Values and cares about its employees, clients and mission. It's a place where you'll work with the smartest, hardest working people you've ever met in a changing, fast-paced environment. It rewards top performers who are team players yet will let an "A-player" go for not living up to key core values such as honesty. In another recent review a former employee said there was no opportunity for growth. This statement is completely false. Like most hyper growth companies, there are certainly areas for improvement (see next box). However, across the entire organization we promoted 137 people between Aug 2014 to Aug 2015. Of the people promoted, 50 were from our Technical Support / Client Success division. Our People Team is working hard with leadership in Support, Sales and Engineering to better define career paths and career development. It also has robust PTO policy including paid time off for volunteering.

Cons

The location is not ideal because of the insane traffic near 620. It also has the standard growth company issues around internal communications between teams and the separate offices. You really have to create your own work / life balance. It's possible but challenging.

Engaging, challenging work

Pros

You ever felt like you're the smartest person in the room? Frustrated that your solutions to complex problems will never be considered or implemented? That is not how it is here. Feel the fulfillment of not always being the smartest person in the room. Having others who are better at you than something, but you still stand out, and have validation to your ideas and input. The pros of working at Bigcommerce are far more than just a hashtag list of free drinks, or beer at work. Those are cool perks yes, but the reality is that what makes working at Bigcommerce amazing is to see hard work and collaboration come to fruition. See people who you care about step up, and take new roles and challenges, and share in their struggles, and share in the success. Ever worked at a company where the CFO walks down the halls with the workers and asks you how you are doing? And actually means it? Having leadership that knows that happy employees are more productive than employees living in fear for their job. You can read the negative reviews. Remember that those primarily come from dissatisfaction bias. People who are leaving negative reviews perhaps did have a negative experience. But remember that usually only unhappy people leave reviews. If you're looking for a place that is easy, and gives you trophies for participating, keep looking. If you are looking for a place that acknowledges, and rewards hard work, you may want to consider talking to people who are successful here. That would be of course offered in juxtaposition to only reading reviews from people who couldn't cut it. Also, since this is outdated and states that the CEO are still the co-founders, I want to point out that Brent Bellm is absolutely amazing. Incredibly intelligent, personable, and compassionate. Business acumen is through the roof!

Cons

Office is amazing, but a gnarly commute. You have 2 road choices, 620, or 2222. Both of those roads seem to be filled with crayon eaters commuting in the morning. Also, due to the rising cost and difficulty in finding an appropriate location (Keep in mind a lot of employees have relocated to be closer to work, and that is obviously considered when looking for a new office). Application of industry standards to employees, while it may not be followed by leadership. 6 month requirement to move to a new position. While this may industry standard, working at a fast paced company where strategy can change 3x in a year, it is premature to enforce this.
