Pros

-Large organization. -ESOP, large 401k contributions in company stock (but not fully vested until 7 years - can be a millionaire if you stay a long time.) -Lots of opportunities. -Hybrid policy, 2 days remote, 3 days in-office (unless you're a senior employee, they never come into the office.)

Cons

- Company is now actively monitoring card-swipes to enforce their RTO policy, which has already driven many experienced engineers to leave for greener pastures. This has put pressure on those who remain. - Outsources work to India, prepare for frustrating interactions trying to explain complex tasks to non-english speakers whos' working hours are your sleeping hours. So much work comes back just plain wrong or poorly done. - End of year performance reviews are rigged. You could be the best engineer to ever live but you won't get more than a 3/5 star review because of company politics. (This directly impacts your yearly bonus, which is already paltry if you're not a mid to upper-level engineer.)

Thank you for sharing your personal feedback. At Black & Veatch we take all feedback and complaints seriously. We are a global company and we understand that being such may come with time zone and language challenges. Our environment is one of inclusivity and respect and we continue to strive for a safe, honest culture every day. The access control system enhancements are crucial to the safety of our professionals and ensure that first responders have critical safety information during an emergency. The safety and health of employees, clients, and contractors is a Black & Veatch core value, and we have been working on these upgrades as part of our technology roadmap for several years Thank you again for sharing your feedback and we wish you the best.

CEO needs to go

Pros

Great internal team and hard working people.

Cons

CEO does not care about his employees, his leadership consists of controlling & monitoring people as if we’re prisoners. Managers no longer have a say with their team when it comes to rules and regulations. Mario Azar has ruined the culture of this once great company. BV created a culture of flexibility with working hours. We were able to obtain an approval from our internal managers to have flexibility as parents as long as we worked our 8 hours & met our project/client needs. This was prior to COVID. We can all agree COVID changed everything. Although we are post COVID, working from home, producing higher numbers and productivity more than ever. He wants us hybrid. Which we can adjust and adapt. The problem now comes when he wants us in the office 8 hours on our hybrid days. With no flexibility. He won’t allow not even two hours of the day remote to help a single parent to pick up a child. This is controlling and not real leadership. This company is employee owned yet employees are not behind heard. Wish we could go back to 2018. Real leaders need to empathize and adapt themselves to the new times.

We appreciate you sharing your personal feedback with us. It saddens us to hear you have less than positive views of our leader, Mario. We understand the move to our hybrid work model more than a year ago was challenging for some professionals. Black & Veatch believes it was important to provide its professionals with flexibility while also enabling the benefits of in-person office collaboration. Navigating this new working model has brought challenges and opportunities. It seems there was a broad misinterpretation of the full day policy--for the more than two decades you've been with us, it has always been to work a full day in the office--8 or 9 hours whether or not you have a 9/80 schedule. Unfortunately, some are seeing it as something being taken away since they've been doing since we came back to the office, but the policy is not new. Our culture was, is and will continue to be strong!

Pros

Great team spirit. There are cross-company collaborations with professionals all over the world. Coworkers are willing to help without casting judgment. Projects are engaging, and there are opportunities to advance your career.

Cons

The ultimate sick time Black & Veatch brags about is for Engineers. Technicians receive 64hrs per year. The New CEO is either out of touch with reality or lacks trust in the employee-owners despite a steep increase in profits and productivity.

We are listening to professionals across all our channels and are taking your feedback into consideration as we move through this transition together. Last week we announced that we pushed the start of our phased return from January to February and shifted various policies to better meet employee-owner needs. We will continue to evaluate our approach to ensure the new flexible model is designed to meet the needs of the business and our professionals.
