Pros

Best people of industry work here . Knowledge you gain at work so precious. If you like competitive environment and/or workaholic env this is place for you. If you put efforts , you will see good results in term of your career and salary.

Cons

difficult to balance work and life, if you wish to compete in BlackRock. Everything is based on performance and skin color.

Pros

As compared to other financial companies, I have received raises every year and anticipate a cost of living adjustment again for 2009. Some of the other benefits are quite decent (gym membership reimbursement, profit sharing, etc).

Cons

There can be some very long days. Additionally, the grand plans that have been touted for you seem to sometimes change in the blink of an eye. I have found that within management, there are different goals/plans and one does not necessarily share with the other. In other words, it is the same as every other Wall St. firm.

Pros

In short: the culture, flat management, relatively small amount of bureaucracy, superior technology, extreme productivity and quest for world domination. I'm proud to work at BlackRock given its growth, reputation and impressive performance during the credit crunch that's killing all of our competitors. Its very exciting to travel the world integrating the various legacy MLIM offices and pitching to prospective clients. BlackRock is a great place to start your career.

Cons

The explosive growth over the past five years has put an intense strain on the institutional architecture. Most functional groups are stretched so thin that critical controls are at risk of failing. The MLIM merger irreparably diluted the traditional BlackRock culture. There are now more than 5,000 people at the company and the previously standard rapid career progression has significantly cooled.
