Pros

You receive solid compensation, great benefits, and respect from those within the industry.

Cons

The environment is stale, there is very little creativity and innovation, community or collaboration. You are expected to work hard and create value for the company (understandable) however, there isn't an acceptance of upper management to grow their associates into the next leaders. Also, organizational changes have been occurring frequently and without notice. What "makes sense" to upper management, still doesn't make sense to the individuals who are actually involved in the re-orgs.

Pros

BlackRock is a dynamic company with an appealingly flat hierarchy - analysts have easy, convenient access to vice presidents and directors. The benefits and pay are attractive (although I don't know that they're any better than other NYC finance firms). There are occasional organized social activities, and the people are generally pleasant and motivated, easy to get along with.

Cons

The hours are quite long in my department, for the first year or two. It can make it feel like you don't have time to experience a whole lot outside of work. The work is demanding and sometimes tedious, but not unbearably so.
