Pros

- While the nonprofit software space has gotten very competitive, Blackbaud still has formidable market share in the nonprofit fundraising market. - For the most part, the frontline employees are hard working, ethical people that passionately care about the work of their customers.

Cons

- The company hasn't grown much organically for many years and the inorganic growth has slowed down because acquisitions aren't properly integrated into the company. - The executive leadership team is shockingly disconnected from the reality of what's happening in the market, with their customers or their frontline employees. - "Flavor of the Quarter" is the best way to describe the company's strategic plan. It's as if the top level executives get together and whimsically decide to course correct every time the latest financial forecast or earnings projections don't meet the Street's expectations. It leaves the employees feeling like they are just a number. It also doesn't help seeing senior executive insiders cash in their lucrative stock options while frontline employees are worried sick about being laid off. - In Jim Collins' book "Good to Great", he talks about employees who are "on the bus" and how that is tied to their level of competency and commitment to the company's mission. At Blackbaud, many people who are chosen to be "on the bus" aren't necessarily the most competent - but the most politically savvy or, I hate to say it, the biggest kiss suckups. - Blackbaud operates like a legacy software company driven by old school operating methodologies. They use all the contemporary SaaS lingo like the Rule of 40, but it doesn't translate to how the company is actually run.

Pros

Good benefits. Some really great colleagues.

Cons

Just dont. Charleston is awesome but you wont get to enjoy it if you are going to survive there more than 2-3 years. Long days, late nights, weekend work. In 13 years I had 22 managers, 9 random role/title changes, constant "horse trading" across teams, meaning you could have a job you love one week moved or consolidated into a team/job you hate the next. Management is the perfect example of the Dunning-Krueger effect (hence the 22 managers). After leaving I was diagnosed with work related PTSD and work addiction (didn't even know this was a thing). Take the job if you want to slingshot/ladder rung to the next step in your career at another employer. DO NOT buy into "we work with nonprofit and try to make the world a better place!" BS because you will work with a client with a mission you love one week then for an client/organization you find morally reprehensible the next (think a foodbank one week then a Political Action group you find terrible the next).

Pros

Pressure makes diamonds, and I made some good friends going through hell with others I did get a promotion to a sales position to get some great experience that led me to my next job You will learn a lot if you can make it to a sales role, but think of this BDR role as being a fraternity pledge for 18 months.

Cons

Ugh micromanagement layoffs and reorganizations they claim transparency, but you are a pawn and they will squeeze as much out of you as possible lies about advancement opportunities lied in the interview about the percentage of BDRs that hit quota regularly tons of cold calling, but that's the job, so not that big of a deal micromanagement IF you do get a promotion, then you do a good job in your new role(sales) you will come to find that outside hires are paid much more and you will always hear that "HR limits pay increases to 15%...starting at a base salary of $30,800 will continue to be a problem if you want to stay at Blackbaud long term Management is terrible did I mention that management is not transparent or honest? micromangement If you are okay with going through 18 months of hell to get a promotion to sales and then put in another 2 years in sales, you will have a really solid resume for tech/saas sales. That's 3.5 years of pretty low pay, so I just want to be honest
