Pros

The services team works with some really great clients, and a lot of the problems are challenging and interesting. There is opportunity to travel if you want to. The pay can be good if you meet your billing targets. It's easy to work from home whenever you like.

Cons

Management is a zoo. They reorganize every few months, never with a clear purpose or direction. There is a real glass ceiling for technical folks, because upper management is always hired from outside, and they rarely have a technical background. This applies to the services team much more than the core product teams, I believe.

Going through uncertain times

Pros

The company mission and customers are very worthy causes. The work life balance is pretty fair and accommodating, including ability to work from home without any issues. The new CEO seems to be the right guy.

Cons

The company is still struggling on innovation. Also, all the new management sees to believe the non-profit market is vastly larger than it really is. There is a lot of new Senior leadership that has not embraced the knowledge of proven "soldiers" to learn about the market and how to be a better partner to customers. Typical new leadership strategy, they are smarter than everyone else...

Pros

Someday there might be a fire drill and that could be cool. Blackbaud buys up all its competitors, so if one business unit fails or becomes obsolete, they can just buy someone else. It is truly the land of milk and honey-- If you are semi-literate and don't push back too hard, you'll be successful without ever actually trying.

Cons

Micromanagement abounds. If there's a fire drill, you'll probably have to take PTO to cover the time you couldn't work. Tenured employees are frequently driven to the breaking point but only stay because it's impossible to find a new job when they have to give 10 days notice for any time off or face the consequences, including termination. People who don't deserve promotion are promoted and tenured employees are left to twist in the wind. Hard work and dedication don't matter, but responding to the right email in an email chain does. Trying to leave and be completely done is like trying to leave the mafia. Nobody in Human Resources knows what they are doing, and neither do any of the levels of management. Nobody is capable of acting on their own, but everyone is real good at passing responsibility around. Good luck receiving your full pay when you quit.
