Old company, old ways, no real employee appreciation

Pros

The people are great. It's a nice southern company where your coworkers become your good friends. Tons of PTO and holidays.

Cons

No bonus program, 1-3% annual raises, low salaries, management not wanting to change...employees doing things for so long that they don't even know why they are doing it...they just keep on doing it because "it's my job". No room for growth. Since they are one of the largest employers in Charleston, they think they don't need to treat their employees better.

Pros

There are no pros to Blackbaud, oh, excuse me "blackbaud". See how edgy and nouveau chic they are? They didn't capitalize their name. I know, right??

Cons

Software relegated to the 1990's. Their flagship software, The Raiser's Edge, is so full of bugs it's almost like the building (including the cafeteria) and its roach problems. There is minimal effort to test anything new with The Raiser's Edge. Office 2010 completely took "blackbaud" by surprise. They had NO IDEA it wasn't compatible with their software, and it only became partially compatible in 2012!!!! They had NO IDEA because they didn't bother to test it in beta. They are coasting along because, really, they don't have to improve their software. Who else will so-call nonprofits turn to? They're buying up all the competition. The last update I had the pleasure of living through was rolled out to much fanfare, and a patch had to be created the same freakin' day. This may or may not be related to the fact they let their employees drink alcohol on the job...it used to be every other Friday, but maybe it's just every day now? Oh, and the managers are a joke. The bimbow I had didn't even know how to use The Raiser's Edge, yet she was chosen to be my supervisor? And she had the personality of cobra snake...just like most of the other ones. You could get a good review if you sucked up and went out to the bars (sensing a theme yet?) in Charleston with the managers. They love to choose brown nosers to move up. If that's your gig, then you'll fit right in. Otherwise, stay away.

Pros

The benefits seemed like they were decent and the location was great (The Domain)

Cons

The first half of my first day went great, but then after that all went to hell. My "training buddy" advised me to go setup my computer, and that was fine. Then I found out that I was getting every technical problem you can have on a computer and I knew it was not on my end. I found out later that it was just the company and their IT department really needs to get there things together. Then I got overwhelmed because I was pretty much sitting there for hours twiddling my thumbs with no one coming over to help or train me. Eventually my trainer came over and asked if I needed help, and when I told him I was a little de-motivated because I did not know what I was supposed to be doing, he just shrugged my response off and went back to his desk. Then I went to the manager and said I do not know what I'm doing here, no one is helping me out and I feel overwhelmed. She said she would get on it, and the next thing I know I'm twiddling my thumbs for hours again. Eventually I just decided to let the time run out and that I was just having a bad day. The next day I told myself it would be a new day, but same thing happened. No one was willing to help me out so I just got up and left.
