Pros

Blank Rome has been actively making steps to be more competitive in the larger legal market, yet the DC office still has a tightknit feel. I felt comfortable going to any of the directors, partners, or Office Chairs with any concerns. There are opportunities to get involved with the firm-sponsored events outside of just your position (like community service and office socials) which make firm/life balance more worthwhile and I highly recommend. It's easy to sit behind a desk all day and just do your job, but it's the people - staff and attorneys - that make Blank Rome a worthwhile place to work. If you advocate for yourself professionally, and prove yourself an important team member, Blank Rome does invest in your professional development with promotions/compensation. I was given every opportunity for projects that I expressed interest in. I felt like management valued my experience and professional opinion. Despite leaving, I will have colleagues, mentors, and friends from Blank Rome for my entire career.

Cons

The 401K policy is misleading. It's written to seem like you will start getting employer contributions after 2 years, but you have to be there a full 3 years before any money is put into your 401K, and the contribution amount is below market.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We appreciate your input and are pleased to hear that you enjoyed working with our attorneys and staff, and had good opportunities for professional growth. We’ll take a look at our Profit Sharing plan description and ensure that the entry dates are clear so that there is an understanding of when our employees begin receiving these 100% fully-vested contributions from the firm. Thank you, and if you have any further feedback to share please email us at HumanResources@BlankRome.com.

Have to pay for medical, not vested in retirement plan for almost 4 years, everyone is replaceable no matter how long they’ve been there

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We would appreciate hearing more and talking with you about your impressions, as we have a very strong commitment to our staff and continue to demonstrate on an ongoing basis that everyone is valued and appreciated. Recognitions range from our BRAVO awards to staff appreciation to ongoing highlights of staff within the firm and various events. We have heard from staff throughout the firm expressing their gratefulness for all the firm has done over the past years to continue to make this a great place to work. Our medical plans are very heavily subsidized by the firm, and the profit sharing plan generous, with entry on a fully vested basis on the January or July after your second year anniversary. Please email us at HumanResources@BlankRome.com as we would welcome a further discussion.
