      Intern to General Manager

      Pros

      I started working with Blavity as a summer intern in 2015. I went on to join the team full time as a marketing manager a year later. Two years later I was promoted to GM. Working at Blavity has been an amazing opportunity for career development and mentorship. The great thing about working at Blavity is you get the chance to work across many different functions and departments within the company. Management is very committed to seeing you succeed and every project is a huge learning opportunity. I don't think I would have been able to grow my career at this pace anywhere else. The company is making a huge impact on culture and it's beyond inspiring to be apart of building that.

      A Great Place For Independent Contractors

      Pros

      -Working on a project I believe in along brilliant millennials and seeing the positive effects for people color. -Working alongside smart, inspiring folks who get the job done and work super hard. -Working with a designated project manager was a major help in streamlining crucial project decisions and understanding context as a remote independent contractor. -Flexible work schedule. -No micro management. I was trusted to fully own my project. -Very quick response times to decision emails, punctual communication. -Management is always actively working to improve, scale and grow the company. -I was always paid on time. -Compensated for all travel expenses.

      Cons

      -At the time I was hired, there was no HR Department to facilitate new employee pre-on boarding process. -Since I worked from home (also a pro), I did not meet the rest of the team in person until after the project was over.

      Pros

      Blavity is doing nice things for African American. Lots of opportunity for growth and work. If you are hardworking then it will pay off, which I like.
