Pros

Working at Blavity has been one of the most creatively fulfilling and strategically energizing experiences of my career. The company is unapologetically centered around amplifying Black culture and community—and that commitment shows up in the work, the team dynamics, and the way we show up for our audiences. A few reasons why this place stands out: You are set up to be of highest value. Leadership actively thinks about how to place people where they can contribute the most, not just where they started. I’ve seen teammates moved into roles where their skills shine more and where the business gets stronger as a result. There’s real intention behind how talent is deployed. Leadership has a sharp read on the market. This company doesn’t wait for a crisis to pivot. Decisions are made early and strategically, and that’s helped us maintain profitability and stability in a media environment where most companies are shrinking or stalling out. True ownership and autonomy. I’ve led cross-channel campaigns (email, paid, organic social, OOH, radio, etc.) end-to-end. I’ve been trusted to not only manage execution but shape the strategy—and that trust makes a difference. Cross-functional teams that actually work together. Product, social, creative, ops, partnerships—there’s active collaboration across functions, not just empty alignment. Syncs are focused, strategic, and lead to real action. Experiential innovation. From AfroTech’s programming flow to Blavity Fest’s community-first model, the events side of the business is bold and always pushing forward. It’s rewarding to be part of building spaces where our audience actually sees themselves reflected. You see your impact. This isn’t a place where work gets buried. Campaigns go live, content circulates, audiences engage—and you see how your ideas move. Seeing community members engage IRL with your work? Unmatched.

Cons

Things move quickly, and sometimes before all systems are fully in place. That can be tough if you’re used to heavy process or want complete visibility at every step. That said, feedback loops are short, and the appetite for iterating is real.
