Pros

For those just starting out in this profession, this may be an okay place to stay a short while to gain experience.

Cons

Understandably the bottom line is important, but how SPIRE gets there is very off-putting for its employees and members. In big-bank style, management forces you to solicit members through cold calling and face-to-face interrogations which encompass all financial departments of a member’s life. Nothing’s off limits - questions relating to retirement, assets owned, liabilities, future plans, is on the table. Management claims these intrusive inquiries are in the spirit of improving lives, but it’s really about performance bonuses. It’s a huge numbers game in the guise of spirited service. These advances are generally unwelcome by members and are awkward. Members should not feel harassed by their own bank when they make simple requests like to open a second savings, or add a joint. All these interactions must be documented - in over five places! Management monitors and scrutinizes notes from each appointment. They seldom celebrate the successes you report. Rather they micromanage you over perceived missed opportunities - “opportunities” that members simply are uninterested in or are unqualified. Management is profoundly insincere. For example, the weekly all-staff is an over-inflated song and dance that reads like a series of uninspiring social media posts.

Pros

Only thing that kept me afloat was amazing coworkers and affordable benefits.

Cons

I gave 100% to this company and still got undervalued. They look like a great company, on paper. Being a member there is amazing but they do not show a fraction of this care to their employees. All things they do are to add a label ("Best Place to Work" award!") or keep mask mandates in place just so that they say they do, not because they actually care about your health. Staffing is so slim that you cannot call out for sick days, or upper management will hear about it and you'll be looked down on. Anything you say for feedback is tied to your name and reputation. It is extremely toxic and plays favorites. Even though I am told I am one of the favorites, I am constantly told I need to do better. You are limited to a 40 hour work week with no overtime, even though you are doing the job of 2-3 people. There is no relief and management is constantly moving around you, you are given no support from upper management even though your direct manager may care. Dont trust the "good" reviews here, go ask a current employee and you'll see the real Spire. If you're a member here, you are getting stellar treatment and it's a wonderful place. As employees, we are overworked and held to impossible standards. The only fear I had in leaving was leaving my awesome coworkers to drown in this company with no support at all.

Thanks for taking the time to submit a review. It’s always difficult to hear that an employee didn’t feel as valued as we would hope. We do acknowledge that with unemployment at an all-time low staffing is a challenge and it is taking longer to fill open positions than it has in the past. We’re always open to hearing any additional individual feedback at hrmail@myspire.com.

Pros

Met a few nice people.

Cons

This job was bad from the first day I walked in. I was shown my cube and told to basically have fun. Minimal interaction for two weeks, then a training on the core system for a week, then I sat for about three months with no work. Got two projects that had very little work. Spent most of my time reading a book and playing games on my phone. Found out there was rift between IT Infrastructure and QA and was told that they couldn't work together. So I kept them separate. Then got yelled at and put on a PIP for following that protocol. Ran projects by the seat of my pants because there was no training and no expectations. Then all of a sudden I was told I was running projects incorrectly and there was a mysterious QA process I was supposed to follow. When I asked for process documentation, I was told it was too immature and it didn't exist. I then found the documented process and learned this wasn't the correct process either. I still don't know what the process is. Stay very far away from this place.
