Pros

Management empowers you. If you need something, management wants you to let them know and they will usually accommodate. The culture here is really laid back in comparison to previous employers for whom I've worked. Here at Blue they trust their employees and don't micromanage unnecessarily, which I really appreciate. Working her is not about punching in or out, rather, they expect you to get your job done and don't make you work a certain schedule. They are very accommodating. Blue is doing very cutting edge things and if new technology benefits Blue, they will see if and how can be incorporated into programs. If you go to large companies (Boeing, Pratt and Whitney) it can take decades to get things approved to use. Blue is quick responding to changing times and doesn't have bureaucracy to go through to get things done.

Cons

In my experience, I haven't had many cons to say. Currently we have to work with a lot of outside vendors to get what we need done. We need more in-house capabilities.

Design, build and test - rare to do all three at a company

Pros

Blue Origin is a great place for engineers that want to design, build and test hardware. It is rare to work in an environment where you have the opportunity to manage a project from conceptual design thru a flight article. In my time here I have yet to start designing something that did not end up as hardware that I tested. The people here are some of the brightest I have worked with and also extremely helpful. There is significant opportunity to learn and hone your engineering skills. As the company grows opportunities for advancement are becoming more available.

Cons

As a growing company there are many processes that need to be worked out and improved. This can be frustrating at times. The benefits are reasonable although there is no opportunity to accrue additional vacation based on years of service.

Great culture+cutting edge mission

Pros

The company has set bold goals and are investing in cutting edge technology and excellent people. Company is developing a world class rocket propulsion group. Engineers are given latitude to make decisions and move fast in the design and development phase. Very hands on--you can actually see your design get built, tested and flown within a few years. Transparency inside the organization is great as management communicates successes, failures, and lessons frequently. Young engineers are given more responsibility faster than most companies in the aerospace industry. Excellent gym, flexible work hours.

Cons

Organizational structure is not optimal and leads to confusion over roles/responsibilities. The team is not growing fast enough to meet the program demands.
