Pros

They give food baskets to employees at Thanksgiving.

Cons

Poor patient care, very low pay to employees, overwork employees - no choice out or be fired - not a friendly working environment. They buy very cheap medical supplies and medications. Animals are killed and owners lied to about it to avoid lawsuits. They lie and force people into un-needed medial care. Doctors are stuck once they stuck on because of "non-compete clauses" preventing them from quitting and working for someone else in the area.

Bluepearl-Illinois Region

Pros

It has a wide variety of specialties, which means employees can experience more. Three years after starting in Illinois, the resources of a large corporation are starting to trickle down to the 3 individual hospitals in the regional network.

Cons

Northfield/Northbrook has been mismanaged for years due to many years of extremely poor management on all levels. Of all the Chicago-land veterinary specialty hospitals, the mismanagement that occurs here is by far the worst. The management is completely ineffective, incompetent and lack the ability to prevent problems, let alone solve them once they blow up in their face. There is very high turnover at the hospital and many people quit after a few weeks. It used to be there was a core group of experienced staff (5+ years) that stuck together through all the chaos that the hospital experienced, however, now they are wising up and leaving. Constant staff vacancies, some for almost a year, means that the staff is overworked, miserable and at each others' throats so there is no teamwork. Its been over 3 years from when Bluepearl bought AERC and the lack of structure, oversight, involvement and direction from the corporate office means this region continues to suffer, year after year. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this mess and get yourself a job at one of the other specialty hospitals in the area. You'll learn to practice medicine at a much higher caliber and will have a much better experience.

Pros

The vibe was consistently of team work and helping one another. The friendships that I made there will last a lifetime.

Cons

The flip side to that is the level of complaints from team members. Many (although not the majority) of technicians seem to be complaining about one thing another constantly. The bottom line was that they would help you in a pinch, but make sure that you know that they aren't happy about it.
