Pros

I've worked here starting in 2025. I was worried at first due to the previous reviews around my start date. I was like "damn it's going to be stressful, chaotic work lifestyle, people fired left and right, etc", but all of that was wrong. Around fall of 2024 the previous SOC manager was let go, and along with how the SOC operates. Previously, it was all about numbers, old tickets were terrible, client unhappy, analyst just worried about quantity. Once John joined, he revamped the system. Unfortunately that means culling some of the people who refused to improve and were not willing to adjust. Obviously this means unhappy employees, which is a lot of the negative reviews over the last few months. Fortunately for me, the reviews were all incorrect. John is spending lots of time pushing for quality, which means higher expectations for how we perform, but not in an unfair way. He tries his best to help us, gives us guidance, and is a patient manager. There is a lot of anger towards him in the reviews. Racism? This is quite the diverse group of people. Lots of the new hires are from all sorts of backgrounds, including myself. Rapid7 cliques? Well he was a manager there, and he had a loyal team who followed him here. People said it was due to referral bias for bonuses, but he isn't even allowed too get those as it is illegal as the manager. I'm not even from rapid7 and was hired this year. Honestly I'd follow him wherever if he'd allow me, he's an awesome manager. From analyst that have been here for years, and witnessed the crapshow this place was before, all they have said was good things about how it's improved. It's a great group of people.

Cons

Well it's not all perfect of course. RTO sucks and it has hit us too. They originally planned for full RTO but the pushback was hard so they have agreed to keep it at 50/50 for local employees. It sucks but we get food and travel credits. It's a lot of work. You can't slack, you mess up? Client complains, which could me potential problems down the line which directly affects the company. It's not a 0 mistakes allowed environment, but they expect you to learn from them. So you actually can't slack off like other socs!! Also the startup struggles. It's going well now but who nows with how the world is doing. There is never a guarantee. Unlimited PTO, you'll never be able to cash out, but fortunately it's generous here so it's not too bad. We have to use splunk lol.
