The SOC that could! Begone bad analysts
Pros
Growth is often challenging—some things improve, while others don’t. Over the past six months, the SOC has undergone significant changes, and while there have been difficulties, the progress is undeniable. Previously, the culture was cutthroat, heavily metric-driven, and often dominated by egos and fake know it alls. Analysts were pressured to meet strict quotas, leading to poor escalations, minimal collaboration, and rushed customer interactions that sometimes caused unnecessary alarm. There was little room for mentorship, and many operated in isolation, doing the bare minimum to move on to the next ticket. Fortunately, things have improved. With new management in place, the focus has shifted toward a healthier, more collaborative environment. Customers are happier, managers are more engaged—joining calls and supporting the team—and talented new analysts are fostering a culture of learning rather than competition. Meetings are now opportunities for discussion and teamwork, not just silent teams meeting for ticket assignments. While there are still challenges, the analysts who resisted change or failed to uphold quality standards are gradually being phased out and management is not afraid to terminate now either. The days of analysts making alarming customer calls based solely on an alert title, with no real investigation, are ending. Gone, too, is the pressure of unrealistic time limits and the fear of termination over metrics alone. The SOC is on the path to becoming a more professional and respectable team, and it’s encouraging to see leadership actively driving that transformation. Keep it up!
Cons
KEEP REMOTE WORK - Remote work has been a crucial factor in attracting and retaining talented analysts from around the world. It would be a shame to lose that flexibility, as so many skilled professionals contribute significantly from outside traditional office settings. Maintaining remote work ensures access to a diverse talent pool, fosters collaboration across different regions, and ultimately strengthens the SOC as it continues to evolve for the better.
