Making your mark not always a good thing

Pros

As time goes on there are less and less.

Cons

Anyone with good experience is getting out. New branch manager is making things difficult for anyone and everyone. The yard guys are treated like they are not intelligent enough to make a decision on their own and its starting to be the same way on the inside. I used to like coming to work but now I dread seeing the branch manager pull in.

Pros

I love the people. The company hires well and retains well. Visibility and access to Sr. leaders in Boise is very unique. Even people in support roles can influence change and progress.

Cons

It is difficult to promote if you are stationed at HQ. Most mid-level managers and Sr. leaders spend a great deal of time away from Boise before they move into advanced roles. This does make it hard when you have a young family and relatives you want to stay close to in Idaho. Likewise, the homegrown operating/POS/accounting systems make it next-to-impossible to telecommute or have flexible work hours. Again, these constraints make it tough when you have a sick kid or a situation that requires any flexibility outside of the old school 8-5. Advanced degrees hold no water - it is all about tenure/experience.
