Horrible place to work

Pros

Can’t think of any at the moment. I am writing this review to save people from working at this horrible company.

Cons

This company is all about the budget. They do not care bout the patients or staff. It is all about filling beds and shuffling them through the hospital to fit the needs of the budget. The nurse to patient ratio is horrible. On an acute med surf floor you can expect to have up to 8 patients per nurse at times. They are also starting and expanding an old school “team nursing” care model which they are telling people is new and will be the best thing ever. It is an excuse to give an even higher ratio of patients to the nurses and to bring in LON’s so they can “increase productivity” and “balance the budget” Middle management doesn’t really have any power to help the floor and are pretty much told what to do so going to your manager doesn’t help. Patients are suffering and not getting adequate care. I am leaving this place as soon as my contract is up. The hospital is also dirty because they run with bare bones staff for all positions... not just nurses. For them it is all about the dollar. Then they act like they are Christian.

Quality Of Care & Compassion Declining

Pros

Appears to be a stable company in a time where health care regulations & funding is changing. The philosophy of the company is centered around the Catholic Religion, there is Daily mass and other Catholic rituals observed and performed for those patients & employees. Employee Assistance programs, including emergency payment of bills. Employee Counselling via phone for a crisis, employee Wellness Program allowing employees to earn cash to help offset medical insurance prices. Company is involved in improving the community including working with Habitat for Humanity Housing Programs, improving the environment with recycling programs, and above standard health insurance. FMLA's are approved quickly.

Cons

Employee Morale is very low; you never hear from your manager unless it's to tell you, that you did something wrong. In-services, staff parties, and other events are centered around weekday day shifts schedule. This portrays the picture that that shift is all who matters. Lack of advancement opportunities. No pay raises or very little, 1%, management staff do not get cost of living increases when the rest of the employees do, and lack of clear cut answers when asked about employment and/or pay questions. HR refers you to you're manager, who then does not reply. No pay raises with advanced RN education such as BSN. Admissions is not screening patients except by phone. We have a lot of psych patients with nurses who lack psych training. The admissions team lacks compassion and moves patients at their whim, like they are playing chess with patients. There is a lack of staff, causing us to use a lot of temp employees who do not provide the same standard of care as an employee, the staff has to then cover more than their share of work to assure the patients being cared for by a temp staff member are being cared for.
