Pros

Good compensation, interesting work, plenty of opportunities to move around teams and departments if you're interested in doing something else. On Senior level, plenty of opportunities to work outside of your team and do impact via department- or company-wide initiatives if you're willing to bear the load of moving them forward. Also strangely enough it seems easier to be promoted and increase your salary that way and through the good performance rather than by changing jobs. I like it so far. Thought to stay here for a year when accepting the offer based on bad GlassDoor reviews, turned out to be the best company I've worked in. The coolest thing is people from all over the world: I've learned enormous amount of non-technical information from my peers, and had opportunity to improve technical and communication skills enormously because of all the different backgrounds people come from. Diversity is not just a buzzword here, I have seven nationalities in team of eight people, and routinely work with people from all over the world. Oh, and one thing which is unusual is that company seem to care about the quarterly questionnaire results and tries its best to fix things which are marked for improvement.

Cons

The biggest problem is middle to upper management in some places is very loosely connected to what is happening on the spot, and it puts a lot of alignment load on the Principal level folks. However, I have no idea how to fix it easily. Getting rid of Team Leads in favour of Engineering Managers who must be seniors at their craft helped the situation but not enough.

Pros

I joined 4 months ago and in the last few months these are the top Pros 1. 500+ Product Management Community which is very active and very supportive. So anyone who is loking to grow and mature the craft, it is a great place to be. 2. The culture of experimentation is real. The experiments are not good to haves but must have part of any release. 3. Onboarding journey has been an absolute dream. I had broken my right ankle just 2 weeks before joining , the mobility team helped me move continents with my dog and a broken ankle smoothly. 4. Focus on Sustainability & a customer first approach to building products. Being a person who wants to be responsible for his actions, it is very nice to be a part of a company which makes sure the environment comes first proactively. 5. Takes care of its employees. We have been given options to be flexible about when and where we work from, free & healthy lunch & also ensuring the policies are implemented after discussing with the employees.

Cons

1. Too big and old silo culture has made it sometimes difficult to find people from other teams 2. Use of a dual Chatting system ( SLACK & Workplace chat ) 3. Multiple documentation hubs

Pros

I am very glad I joined Booking as they really care about reliability of their systems and are taking it to another level. Nice benefits and career opportunity and what is even more important - good work life balance.

Cons

Don't have a lot to say. The only thing that comes to mind is a lot of legacy Perl code. However there is an ongoing effort to rewrite it in a more modern stack.
