Pros

Fortunate if you work on a good team with good supervisors (I am)

Cons

Moving backward - instead of embracing the future and accommodating flexibility and diversity, they are making it more difficult for women, minorities, those with ADA needs, and other unique circumstances. They will lose good employee-owners to companies (competitors) that have a vision for the future instead of a yearning for the old, male, able-bodied, non-BIPOC dominated workforces.

Much Room for Improvement

Pros

A lot of the people are great to work with. ESOP is a nice benefit for those that stick around long enough.

Cons

Leadership is going back in time instead of working to remain competitive and listen to the “valued” employee owners. Lack of remote work options and a Fargo first mentality for Corporate employees drives off very talented employees or potential employees. Lower pay than most competitors and not much other than ESOP for benefits. Don’t plan on any career advancement opportunities unless you’re a white male with the new leadership.

Good Company But Stuck in the Past

Pros

Border States has a great set of benefits with their shining star being the ESOP. I work on a really great team with a great leader who puts the employees on the team first so our team feels really valued. This is not the case for all teams.

Cons

They recently took away the option for remote work full-time so you now have to be in the office 3 days a week. This has really decreased morale. Even top executives have left the company due to this policy. Instead of Border States caring about this they let the top executives leave instead of hearing what their workers had to say and adjusting the policy due to feedback.
