Sinking Ship Pulled Down by Leadership

Pros

- HR hires quality people - Good culture - Unlimited PTO - ESPP

Cons

No product vision, strategy, and failure to execute. Depending the day of the day of the week and the leader you're speaking to Box is a "different kind" of company, all of which ignore the core purchase reasons of the existing and future customer base. Leadership expects company to turn on a dime based on the day's whim. - Product decline and instability: Newest features are weak, buggy, and never fixed. Critical customer requests to support highest value use cases are ignored - Operational dumpster fire. No role clarity, processes nor ownership. Things that should take minutes or hours take days and weeks if they get done at all. No one has any idea what anyone else is doing - Internal meeting, change, and resource organization fatigue - Micromanagement, and managers expect ICs to hold other teams "accountable" instead of managers aligning with each other - Lack of technical guidance and services for customers - Mediocre pay with little growth opportunity - No 401k match - RSUs don't gain value

Pros

- Relaxed work environment - Pace is slow, not a lot of urgency generally - Interesting technical problems when I joined, but given recent technology shifts this may no longer be the case - The pay to work ratio is good, even though you may be below market slightly

Cons

- Lack of career growth. The promotion process was difficult to navigate and the requirements were unclear - Restructuring and churn, every year I worked here I had a new manager -

Pros

* Smart, helpful coworkers who genuinely want customers to succeed * Product/platform has real value and strong enterprise adoption * Good learning early on from complex customer work

Cons

* In my experience, consulting is heavily driven by utilization and “urgency,” which creates a constant firefighting environment. * Weekend work and after-hours escalations can become normal on certain engagements without a clear on-call/coverage model. * Projects frequently felt under-scoped or started before requirements were truly finalized, leading to rework, compressed timelines, and customer escalations. * Internal process/tooling changes increased admin overhead (forecasting/timesheet friction) without clearly improving delivery outcomes. * Compensation progression felt weak over time: my initial offer was competitive, but raises/refreshers did not keep pace with increased expectations or cost of living. * Hybrid/RTO enforcement and monitoring added stress, while day-to-day workload remained intense.
