Pros

Smart people that are good at what they do. Everyone is friendly and interesting. free snacks, and drinks, and bagels on Fridays. Great HR department. Pet friendly.

Cons

Small company so sometimes it's hard to find the right person to answer specific questions. A lot of people do a lot of different things and some roles aren't well defined and training is limited.

Pros

Employees are rewarded to help the company grow and is chock-full of technology veterans and new hires having deep technical chops. This is a privately held company so the business rules are simple and fair. Management layers are minimal, people are empowered to take action and to own up to their mistakes. Volumes and volumes of work gets done which is very refreshing. To date you cannot hide in the shadows like can be done at large companies, nor would you want to. You'll work hard and make an impact to the team's success rather than having HR balloons, Beer bashes, and rah-rah events.

Cons

Annual company meetings could be augmented with quarterly, albeit brief, updates. No need for the quarterly sessions to be in-person.

Fast paced innovation without a lot of bureaucracy

Pros

Fast growth without excessive layers of administration. Everyone has a stake in the performance of the company. Fun technology to learn and work with. Modern thinking company.

Cons

Don't get all the fringe benefits of many SV startups (you know free lunch and stuff), but I would rather the extra income gets reinvested in employees anyway instead of waste.
