Pros

I worked with the developmentally disabled, and they were easily what made going to work most rewarding. They were like family, in a sense, and my staff felt similarly.

Cons

Because we worked in houses scattered about the community, we felt isolated from the goings-on at the main office. Communication from the office seemed dictatorial at times, and I suppose we sounded disengaged from their concerns because our focus was on the clients.

New responsibilities added constantly without increasing compensation. No work/ home balance because of the 24/7 on call responsibility.
