A Company Stuck In Its Ways

Pros

You receive a steady and stable paycheck. They managed to not lay anyone off during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cons

Little room for professional growth; the majority of employees don't receive promotions (if any) until 4 or 5 years in, there are rarely raises given unless you're of a certain title or higher. Current CEO hates remote work, so if that's what you value don't work here. The Executive team is trying to take DE&I seriously as of 2020, however it's not reflected in the senior management leadership. There's poor communication between departments and you're always operating in a reactive state. Everyone caters to the wants/needs of one particular department as well which can be frustrating.

Bad career move for me

Pros

Some of the people were nice. Pay was ok...

Cons

Before I came to BMI, I worked in healthcare IT. I thought the music business would be a nice change. After experiencing the climate and IT management at BMI, I decided to go back to healthcare, but I had a hard time finding a new job at that point. When I interviewed, having music industry experience was seen as a negative, and working for the IT management at BMI, who largely came from healthcare - with a terrible track record there, made things difficult for me. My advice would be to consider a possible career move to BMI carefully, especially if you are ever interested in working in healthcare later. I figured it out, but it wasn’t easy, and I never experienced this kind of issue prior to working at BMI.
