Based on a one star review, and such little information, its difficult to provide you any meaningful feedback. I hope you find better prospects in your future employment.

Dammit Jim, I'm a Tech, Not a Salesman!

Pros

It would be much better if I were allowed to actually do the job I was hired for...

Cons

Tossed into the sales call queue with only a quick hour of training, are you serious? It's not like I don't have my own work to do or anything. What a waste. Want to keep wait times down? Hire more sales reps. Don't pull employees from the jobs you still expect them to complete to answer phones. This is supposed to be temporary, but it's been going on for months. I'm not paid enough to deal with this. There's a lot of other stuff that's been frustrating about working here lately, but this is the icing on the corporate cake. I'm looking for a new job, hopefully something where I actually wind up doing what I'm hired for.

The last few surges of growth have been very frustrating and stressful. Not only to employees, but to customers as well. We've been met with a wall of calls and we've resorted to some drastic measures to ensure that we continue to serve our customers with the same level of service we would expect if we were buying our home improvement products from someone else. It can not be denied that we've asked other departments outside of sales to step up and help handle customers to prevent atrocious hold times. Some have risen to the challenge valiantly, others haven't been so happy with the request. I'm sorry that we didn't provide you with adequate training, that was most likely an oversight or something that was lost in translation. It sounds like you are miserable here, and for that I am sorry. I strive to make Build.com one of the best places to work in Chico. Despite your dissatisfaction, we wish you luck in your future exploits!

Pros

Decent compensation, good benefits, some training classes offered.

Cons

I read an article not long ago that perfectly described my experience working for this company. Build.com "is a workplace culture that encourages fraternal “old boy networks” that inclusively support and encourage networking with fellow males and while at the same time, block female employees from participating in the male-dominated decision-making circles. Bro culture supports the exclusion of women to foster and support values that maintain “the way we always done things around here.” This adage is often actualized as a barrier that rejects difference to maintain the comfortable “company way” of conducting business". You want to talk about politics in a corporate office? This place has got it. I've seen way too many good people (genuinely good, hard-working people) get mistreated here. Nobody wants to speak up because of fear of losing their job and unfortunately it's cultivated an uncomfortable workplace environment. The feeling of anonymity, irrelevance and immeasurement has truly classified this company as a miserable place to work.
