      Great if you're a male engineer - terrible if you're anything else

      Pros

      Lots of young, good engineers who know their subject matter. Good lines of communication with senior staff, including partnership - even interns and partners talk comfortably. Good reputation in the industry. Central location - just off Oxford Street. Good culture if you're a young engineer, including very active Young Engineers Forum and lots of lunch time seminars etc. POETS day - each last Friday of the month, all staff finish at 3pm.

      Cons

      Company doesn't understand how to foster talent in the supporting services - finance, IT etc. Lose people all the time. Lack of understanding by engineers about what other people do - results in people being asked to do things outside of their remit constantly. Lots of cliché sexism, including young females being asked to do administrative tasks when it's not their role. Partnership has a lot of 'old boys' that are culturally stuck in another century.

      Great if you’re in the club

      Pros

      Good projects and reputation. Great social life if you’re in the “club”. Some great people and fairly non-corporate culture

      Cons

      Lowest salary in the industry, very poor/non existent training. Very little diversity, with lots of “old white men” in charge of the “club”. Workplace bullying from senior management affects the culture negatively. Lots of talk about encouraging more women to join the company, but lad-ish culture means there is very little keeping them there. Huge focus on maximising profit and working to tough deadlines, but salary and bonus have nothing to do with individual performance and are not decided by your line manager. Yearly performance review system is not fit for purpose. High turnover of staff. Lots of team social events based around drinking makes it tough for people who abstain.

You raise a valid point about team events needing to be accessible for all, we believe it’s important to create and build a culture where people can be themselves.
