No Leadership in Video

Pros

Okay benefits with unlimited vacation.

Cons

The video team lacks general focus and direction. BDG recently shifted away from editorial video to branded and it was not a smooth transition. Department leaders have no production or branded experience and there is no creative vision to create quality branded work. Clients are increasingly frustrated and morale is at an all time low. This isn't surprising as the team sits under the Business Development department instead of Branded Content. There just isn't the experience or understanding of how branded video works. There is a complete lack of mentorship and you will not grow your talents at this company.

Pros

-It's a great place to increase your bylines and commune with other great writers. -The exposure you get to write on a platform of this scale is awesome. -You learn how to write quicker.

Cons

-Although you learn how to write quicker, the content seems rushed just to be put out first. -Work culture, especially if you're a remote writer, is non-existent. -Lack of communication on work progress with the writer to editor relationship. -Using google-chat as communication causes many things to get lost in translation. -Some editors do not have effective communication skills. -There isn't a weekly "meeting" with your leaders or editorial section about what's going on with Bustle unless there is a sudden "change" in the company or your individual performance. -Assignments aren't usually given so sometimes pitching can be difficult when 10 other writers may have pitched the same idea as yours previously.
