Forced return to office and low pay

Pros

The company culture can be fun if you're into organised fun. Colleagues are all nice, and I enjoy working for a dog-obsessed company, as I too am dog-obsessed.

Cons

Sadly they are forcing a return to office 3 times a week, when the office is quite far out from central and a pain to get to for many employees. The pay is also significantly below average, and very little guidance on how to rise up the ranks. Feel like if I want better pay, I will have to leave the company. It was probably a great place to work if you got your foot in the door 3+ years ago and could work your way up fast, but not anymore for new people.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re delighted that you enjoy our dog friendly culture and the camaraderie with your colleagues. these are core aspects of what makes Butternut a special place to work. We understand that commuting to our West London office three times a week can be a challenge, depending on where you’re located in London, and we truly appreciate the commitment it requires. In-person collaboration is essential to our culture and fosters the creativity, teamwork, and energy that drive Butternut forward. That said, we’re dedicated to ensuring the time spent in office together is meaningful and rewarding. We appreciate your feedback on pay and career progression as we’re committed to ensuring competitive compensation and clear growth opportunities for everyone at Butternut. Recently, we introduced a structured career step framework for both individual contributors and managers to make progression pathways more transparent. We also hold annual salary reviews and frequently grant additional share options to high performers as part of our commitment to recognising and rewarding contributions. Thank you for sharing your insights, they’re invaluable as we strive for better in the areas mentioned.

Pros

- Free food for you and your pet

Cons

They say in your first week that you’re in the 3% that made it well count yourself lucky if your in the 97% that didn’t. I’ve worked in many places and never in my life have I experienced such poor management. They pride themselves on feedback but it’s always personal and negative and then wonder why you don’t have enthusiasm to do go the ‘extra mile’. There are so many cliques it felt like high school and management just promote their friends. If you want to make it you either have to have been lucky and been there when they started, back stab, or be your managers pet whilst reading the company values every night before bed like they’re gospel. Don’t expect to get anywhere on actual hard work.
