Pros

Work half of the year

Cons

Terrible leadership and petty managers who have a tenuous grip on reality, they expect staff to exceed the 12 hours they work because they think we are robots. Health and safety is an absolute joke which is run by people who have little interest about the issues we have or how to solve them. Forget promotion unless you socialise with higher ups or are of an obsequious nature.

Pros

Genuinely diverse engineering team: One of the standout aspects of working at Butternut Box (especially in the product/engineering department) is the diversity, not just in backgrounds but in personalities too. It creates a vibrant, inclusive, and fun working culture that you don’t find in every tech company. Growth opportunities: Internal promotion is a real thing here. If you're putting in the work and contributing meaningfully, there’s a high chance you'll be recognised and supported to grow within the company over an external hire. Steep learning curve: The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, which can be intense at times, but if you're hungry to learn and upskill quickly, it's incredibly rewarding. Amazing holiday package: The time off is generous. I had 36 days of holiday this year, way above average and something that really helps with work-life balance.

Cons

The fast pace can be overwhelming if you're not used to it or prefer a more laid-back setting. It suits self-starters and people who thrive under pressure.

Pros

- Working alongside the brightest people across all teams, extremely dedicated to growing the business and looking after our customers. - Extremely values focussed organisation, where people behaving in line with the values are rewarded and progress to senior positions. - Interesting and challenging work, with a lot of variety on a day to day basis, all driving towards one goals: feeding more happy & healthy dogs (and now cats too!) - For the first time in my career, I get out of bed and feel excited to come in and see my brilliant colleagues and get stuck into what ever the day holds - it feels too good to be true. - Leadership & People team are extremely supportive and caring, for example when they know an employee is having a tough time outside of work, doing everything they can to protect team members and be flexible if it helps.

Cons

- Not a 'con' per se, but the business and leadership have high (rightly) expectations of every single person in the squad, this means work can be intense - genuinely not to be read as long hours / bad culture, but you'll need to be stretching yourself to do better every day.
