Some good but old school management practices

Pros

Nice people, tech company, smart business goals, good new employee welcome, remote work option, decent benefits, can be great if you have a good manager you report to. If someone in your work group needs personal help, the company seems to be understanding.

Cons

Not enough staff to manage the work and a couple of key upper managers are one or two levels above their skill. They work a lot but don’t know how to manage a large department or make well reasoned decisions. The direction they chose can be from one persons opinion. Speed and production more important than quality and happiness. Who you know is way too influential. Kissing up is rewarded but critics risk termination for raising concerns. Unnecessarily stressful environment because of lack of good management across the top.

Pros

I had great team members. the manager bought lunch 2 or 3 times a month.

Cons

long grinding hours. they will insist you work at least 50 hours a week. every team member has 200+ orders. there is no way to properly manage that many orders. the project coordinators are the "catch all" for every angry fiber customer, every frustrated sales person, and every internal group that is involved with implementation of data and voice. the time lines are beyond ridiculous. the average time to install is around 4 months (many take more than a year). sales cannot sell with those timelines. so, they lie about when it will be done. a high percentage of the customers are angry. the sales reps are all angry. the sales managers are all angry. every group that you ask for help is angry. as a PM/PC for Cspire, you are the complaint dept for everyone internal and external. the pay is fair. I was at $29/hour when I left. the managers play games and say, "you make more than everyone else. so, don't discuss your pay with anyone." ...but they tell everyone that. Cspire has the worst "time to delivery" in the industry. management has absolutely no idea how to fix it. they hire people from other companies with the knowledge of how to do things properly. the response is always, "we cant do that". so, they continue trudging along, trying to make their old ideas work. failing. I was hired for a different position. I was put into the role of PC when covid hit. 18 months later, I was still a project coordinator. I asked many time to be moved to another position. (I was a very successful telecom sales engineer for 7 years prior to joining the CSpire team) the project coordinator job is beyond miserable. I was never allowed to move to another position or even to do the actual job I was hired to do. I spoke about it to one of the VPs. I was told that they couldn't afford to lose me from that team. So, I exercised my only option and left. if you think about taking on this job, you better have some "happy pills" or a good therapist. the PC team has almost 0 recognition and very little in the way of rewards. we did get a bonus one year. it was $92. that lets you know exactly how disconnected upper management is with reality. if you can only afford $92 as a bonus, you should just keep it. you must need it worse than I do. take a job with this company only as a last resort!
