Pros
The hours were good for part-timing; a full shift from 3pm-9:30pm allowed for time to interview at other places during the day. The workbooks provided made it easy to assign work, and if everything was set up correctly, it was very easy to work through the 2-hour session, even with multiple students. Sessions with only homework help are easy; nothing to prepare, and just clarifying whatever is necessary.
Cons
Pay will not increase significantly over time, regardless of how many more students you get, how many more subjects you teach, or how popular you are with the students. I started off teaching English & Math, and eventually was helping out with all the AP classes, regular classes, and even tutoring some elementary schoolers. My pay was just $1-$2 less than another tutor who had been working there for five years, with the same expertise. There wasn't consistency between ages I'd tutor. It would usually range from middle or high school, but I had a few elementary schoolers. Unfortunately, I often had students from all these age ranges in the same session, which made it difficult to keep everyone focused. Also, tutor turnover was high; in one year, 6 tutors left at my branch (which only employs 3-4 at a time). The contract I signed prohibited me from opening my own tutoring service within a certain amount of time and within a certain distance from any branch.
