Pros

The individual center directors have a lot of say in the working lives of their tutors, so experiences from town to town might vary. The director at my center is good; she runs interference between teachers and parents, holds meetings so that teachers can compare notes, and listens to suggestions. She relies on her tutors for most of the academic direction. My regional trainer, educational director, and VP also involve themselves in major issues and are willing to listen to suggestions. Teachers who put forth the effort can expand their horizons (i.e. teach an SAT Boot Camp, start book clubs, work on projects). The company encourages suggestions from its tutors. The pay is decent; it’s not as much as one-on-one, in-home tutoring, but you don’t have to worry so much about hours. The curriculum for high-school students is great.

Cons

Tutors have to be flexible; a class of three can have a third-grader learning basic sentence structure, an eighth-grader working on an essay, and a senior trying to ace the SAT. This can be stressful and requires an ability to plan and alter that plan according to need. Tutors are judged according to two factors: student success and classroom fun. Balancing these can be tricky. The regional trainers mention the pros and cons in detail during the interview. Listen to them before deciding if the job is for you. I have seen teachers who struggle with and complain about the very things they have been warned would happen.

Pros

- Continually developing system for students to create higher success rates - 3-to-1 student ratio provides ability to keep lessons personal (not all sessions will have the same type or grade level student) - Teaching atmosphere allows for flexibility in delivery methods; recommended system is there but enough room to allow for more effective teaching - Part-time hours are flexible enough to work around employees' personal lives - Some center directors are incredibly great to work with and personally, my center director is one of the most trusted people in my life - Focus on rapport + teaching allows a great relationship to build with students and in my opinion, build a future network years down the road (students constantly come back to express gratitude and provide updates on college life) - College application process is very hands-on and allows teachers to pass on their own knowledge and skills to younger generations. I feel good sending kids off to top 50 colleges knowing I was a huge asset to them - Continually (albeit slowly) expanding educational system for teaching more material with a structured base -Potentially THE educational model for the future if evolved correctly and applied well

Cons

- Needs a higher focus at the bottom line which is the teacher. Better follow-up with newly trained employees, higher focus on defining individual skills to cultivate the best teachers that grow - Needs better feedback system from the bottom to top, not top to bottom - More advancement opportunities, career tracks, managed expectations - Pay raises are almost taboo with no structured basis for evaluation - Could make changes to some managing positions to create a better flow and streamline the operational process - Needs structure in certain facets of operations

Pros

The three student model is interesting, the curriculum provided is decent, and there's no driving from house to house. Also when a student cancels, the three student model provides for a back-up so there's a minimal loss in hours.

Cons

The craigslist ads state that there's an opportunity for full time work. That's incorrect. They say that you can make $35,000 minimally; as far as I've been told I've maxed out the amount of allowable raises and I still do not make that much. There are no benefits. They make you sign a contract signing away your 30 minute lunch break or risk losing hours. Losing the lunch break wouldn't be a problem if there were a more stringent planning policy which forces teachers to scramble to re-plan new classes during the break. Finally, the company fails to consistently attract competent management because it insists on underpaying or not paying for performance; even if there were a clear path from tutor from manager, no one in their right minds would want the job.

C2 Education Response

Its great that you recognize that our 3:1 student teacher model is a great way to accomodate the flexible schedule we provide our employees and families. It sounds like you've had a very negative experience with your local management team and I would like to address your concerns as soon as possible. We love our teachers and I am committed to making sure you feel valued and supported. Our HR and training teams have made alot of improvements to the development and compensation plans that provide you with more options. There is so much more to being a C2 Education teacher than just content knowledge and with these internal improvements, I hope you will agree this postion has so much to offer.
