TSS/PCA

Pros

I worked as a TSS/PCA in an autistic-support preschool classroom. This was a great job right out of college, wages are slightly higher than other TSS jobs because they don't offer benefits and you cannot work more than 39 hours a week; but it works if you are not in need of benefits. Great learning experience at this particular location.

Cons

You are contracted by CCRES to work for the CCIU (Chester County Intermediate Unit), the case managers that work for the CCIU are not the most helpful since you are not technically their employee. CCRES allows a pay jump from the base rate to $19.75 if you complete supervision hours once a week and the required trainings. I was not told about the supervision hours that I needed to be fulfilling until the month that I was supposed to get off of probation (and have my rate increased). They would not increase my rate until I started attending weekly supervision, therefore my raise was held back several paychecks. Also, even though I had to drive 40 minutes to this particular location and requested several times to move to a location that was 5 minutes from my house (that I know for a fact was understaffed), they refused to allow me to move locations.

Not As Good As It Seems

Pros

-It gave me experience with children which was great -Worked during the school days -Good pay

Cons

- They called the status part-time, but we worked 36 hours as "part- timers." AKA, no benefits, even though we were technically full-time. -The case managers were not consistent in what they wanted and/or expected from PCAs -I didn't know the name of this woman but she decided to move me around all the damn time. The kids need CONSISTENCY. She would also tell me what I was doing wrong but she wouldn't give me any advice on how to fix it or improve my performance. -Not nearly enough training (online training and then how to restrain a child safely... no training on anything else) -Communication in this company honestly sucks.
