Pros
It is a medical device manufacturer and the products that they make and distribute are intended and do help people. Generally nice employees who work hard to get what they perceive to be their job done. You are only expected to work 40 hour per week - engineers or managers are not expected to work overtime. Very effective sales force. Products generally well received in the marketplace.
Cons
Inept management. They continue to struggle to install and maintain an adequate quality management system (21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485:2003). The many "483" observations made by the FDA is and the too numerous product recalls are evidence of this. Not a great place to be an engineer or of a manager with any ambition - innovation with regards to both product and processes is discouraged. It also seems that you are always cleaning-up someone else's mess. Compared to other medical device manufacturer, like JnJ, working at ConMed is like going back in time; their business thinking and processes are at least 20 years out of date.
