Pros

The company does have an excellent pension program, only thing is you have to spend 25 years there for it to be worth it!!! Other than that nothing really !!!

Cons

Management is terrible, I worked in electrical department at the power plants. Everyone in that department hates each other and comes in to work bitter every morning because they hate their job so much , but actually make a decent salary and aren't skilled in anything else so have to put up with it. Most employees in that department started off a custodians and were given the chance to work in the electrical department as a move up, but actually have no interest in learning the job, just took the spot because it paid better. And the other group which has been working there 10 to 20 years has lasted because of union protection, but can't tell you where a motor that they have passed by for the last 20 years is even fed from. The time I spent there, I was miserable and kept trying to convince myself that despite all the negatives it could be a good place to work , I just had to put in my dues, but to be perfectly honest, I felt the time I spent there, I actually got dumber!!! COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. Do yourself a favor and keep on looking!!!

Pros

At least you are not unemployed.

Cons

One of the prerequisites to be a manager in IT is a complete lack of technical ability. Pay scale is determined by who you are buddies with and how long you have been there...not what you know or what you are capable of. The Service Desk is scared of any real troubleshooting and could be replaced by a checklist monkey. No one can agree on IT strategy. No one can agree on infrastructure. No one can agree on policy. There is no data retention limitations! Users are encouraged to store .pst files on the network! A mentality of "The sky is falling" runs rampant. If you have no self standards, no self dignity, or never want to be held accountable working for someone who doesn't know anything about your job function in an extremely mediocre workplace that has no logic when it comes to pay scale CPS Energy is the place for you!
