Pros

I have wanted to be a truck driver since I was a little kid. I looked into going to a CDL training school and found that I would pay around $6000.00 for a six month program and then I would have a license but no experience. Most major trucking companies have training programs - C.R. England provides training and puts you out on the road. So you obtain the license and training in a much shorter period. After you fulfill your commitment; you have the experience the rest of the industry is looking for. You can then leave and earn what you are worth - Not what England pays.

Cons

There is no work/life balance here. I am on a dedicated fleet and I am able to get home more than most. I will burn my 70 hour clock in about 6 days and then I go home for a 34 hour reset. It really is not substantial to consider this "home time" in the biblical sense. I have 6 days of laundry and bedding to wash, shop for food, and finally sleep. The pay is (from what I see) the lowest in the country. The miles are inconsistent from week to week which makes it difficult to create, maintain, and follow a decent budget. The biggest problem I have is that C.R. England will hire anyone who answers the phone. There are drivers here that should not be on the road. My fleet shares a dispatch with another professional trucking company. If I walk the lot where the England trucks are parked; I can count at least 20 of the 60 tractors parked with significant body damage on them from pure negligent and careless driving. The other fleet drives the exact same routes and I have an impossible time finding even a scratch on their fleet. Half of the drivers here at least should not be on the road with an 80,000 pound truck. This is the least professional group of drivers out there! It is remarkable though; as I read the comments about the company I work for, the support staff and management seem rather satisfied. The one piece of this company, which is the profit center are the drivers. Very few drivers are happy and this is where the money comes from. The good drivers leave, and the poor drivers just hope they don't get fired. I am out the door as I have secured employment with another company that has greater standards for drivers and my pay will close to double. I don't understand why England does not focus (at all) on retention. I can not imagine how much money is lost every year on turn over. I guess it is the old business analogy, that if you are making enough money, you can be as inefficient as you want to be and it just does not matter. My advice is to go elsewhere.

Cons

Say they pay fair, treat drivers good. They are trying to stick me 5000 bill for going and getting my CDL. They put me in truck with trainer that was reckless, and would get sexual towards all females he was supposed to train. Get angry later if we had attitude back. 2 girls before me said they were scared and jumped truck. Same as I because he was scary and wouldnt get you to your home state to get your ID. Also their teachers would try what they could. The other girl I teamed with. At the end. The teacher reached up her shirt in back and snapped her bra. As a woman you don't feel secure. When You leave for these reasons. They send you emails that they want their money. And dont believe you, when you tell them about the bad experiences. Go to swift. I told swift. They got me a female trainer and followed through. Also trainer took me and 1 other female on his truck at same time. Her husband came and picked us up from a truck stop because we were scared of this guy.

Pros

If you like being lied too, treated like cattle, don't want or have a life away from work. Well this company is for you!

Cons

There truck driving school is nothing but a joke. I was there for a total of 14 days. Out of the 14 days only 3 days was spent behind the wheel. And out of the 3 days about two and a half hours was actual drive time. You spend most of your time in a class room learning very little about drive a truck. Most of your time is spent on learning C.R. Englands policies, how great it is working of them and how much money you can make. What they convently leave out is; C.R. England is the laughing stock of the trucking industry just ask any truck driver at the nearest truck stop. The amount of money they tell you will make is true but not with C.R. England. C.R. England pay is the lowest in the indusrty. Oh, when they say were a family orientated company; what they are referring to is there family not yours. Now after you "graduate" there wonderful trucking school you move on OTR training. Which is nothing but a joke. Most if not all of the driver trainers themselves have less than a year driving experence. Second your paid minimum wage about 450 a week. If you were getting paid by the mile it would average out to 1700 a week or more depending on the miles. C.R. England is making a killing off there student drivers. Now that all of your "training" is done you get dropped off in Salt Lake City not have a clue who to talk to were to go, etc.. Here you retake test that you possible failed, pick if you want to be a solo or team driver. And recieve a phone call from a DM offering you a job. From start to finsh you are lied too. Your nothing but a number and the company could care less about you. Run as far as you can from this company, stay away from it.
