Pros
Shift differential is an extra $5/hour on top of the base salary. Attendance bonus can add another $2/hour. There is plenty of opportunity for people to go from being brand new to being an operator fairly quickly, because of the labor shortage.
Cons
In summer, the temperatures can be extreme, due to the fact that we run multiple furnaces simultaneously with no air conditioning being able to be used in the production area. If you work 3rd shift, it’s not an easy adjustment, and you only have 1 day in a standard week (Saturday), on which you won’t be at work at all. There is clear favoritism and nepotism, and in 5 years, I’ve yet to see a person of color become a lead, despite having quite a few employees who are minorities. If you show yourself to be capable in any fashion, you will be expected to do more while there is virtually zero accountability for people who literally do nothing while making an obscene amount of money for their effort.
