Pros

The project management support network is phenomenal. CSC's PM support includes budget and project management as well as resource planning. Also, if you're working for a client that treats you as a partner, the job is quite rewarding.

Cons

My mid-level management was clueless as to what was going on in the trenches. For example, they made decisions and enforced offshore resourcing without enabling us to set up the proper infrastructure to make offshore successful. It took at least a year to convince management a plan was necessary to set up the framework to enable offshore resources to effectively contribute to the client's IT projects.

Pros

CSC is a very decentralized company. It is a loose connection of contracts with a bare outline of HR policies and usually there is no HR support or corporate representation on a job site. The work environment depends on the leadership of the particular contract you are working on. The bext part about working for CSC is that it is very easy to move from one contract to another and from one division to another. This enables you to both demand more money and diversify your skills and experience. CSC does offer tuition reimbursement for education your manager and program manager deem pertinant to your duties.

Cons

The benefits are barely industry standard and are poorly implemented. There is no paid family leave and you only receive 2 weeks of vacation until your fourth year. CSC HR support is available via telephone but does not intervene on behalf of employees in issues with insurers. Annual raises barely beat inflation (usually about 4% if you receive an evaluation of a 2 out of 5 with 1 being the best). The raise system is set up so that there is a limited pool for each division, making it so that if one employee is well compensated his or her colleagues automatically loose out even if they are performing well. Bonuses are rare and usually are only given to management. If an employee works well over a 40 hr week (I've put in 95 hr weeks) his/her program manager may apply for him/her to receive a pay differential for 8 hours of work. Because CSC is so decentralized it's hand never knows what it's foot is doing. CSC does not do a good job of sharing knowledge between its groups. Each contract is an island that is ruled as its PM sees fit. The PM determines opportunities for advancement, the standard of professional behavior, and the standard of dress. I did work in one CSC office where "professional" women were held to a different standard of dress than "administrative" women and only men were permitted to dress business casual on Fridays. CSC has cut back its employee reassignment services (the support for finding new jobs within CSC for employees who've lost their positions due to a loss of a contract). At CSC it's every man for himself and employees should not expect job security.

Pros

The co-workers and a place to get started in your career.

Cons

Horrible pay for the work performed. Each account is required to be it's own profit center and I worked on the "premier" account of DuPont and yet we were never given brand new laptops to use - we only ever got hand-me-downs that were always out of warranty and would frequently break - the senior managers of the account would have a new computer every 1-2 years but the people who actually do the work within the account never had new computers to use - no matter what Line of Service (PMO, Tcom, Desktop Support, Midrange, Mainframe, etc). I was without a laptop for over 3 weeks because CSC did not have anyone from tech support to fix it. CSC cut back so badly that it put desktop support of CSC employees behind desktop support of DuPont employees - this is no joke - it did and continues to happen there in Newark, DE. I was then given a 6 year old laptop to replace the 9 year old laptop that could no longer be fixed - and here we are working in the Project Management Office of the "premier" DuPont account getting this kind of service from within CSC - can you imagine how bad the service is to CSC customers/accounts when CSC employees are taken care of in this manner??
