Pros

Many excellent and smart people. New and exciting technologies are used. Nice Omaha campus. Good benefits and pay at certain levels.

Cons

For most employees there is the ever lingering lay off possibility. Executive management seems very short term focused, the "street" and making numbers is more important than employees. At lower levels employees are treated as commodities. There have been mass layoffs every 12-18 months for the past 8+ years. Q4 is a popular layoff timeframe as it allows them to "make" their numbers for the earnings call. Many managers seem to enjoy pointing out that you can be replaced. In executive management, there is the good ole boy network. If you are in it, you are golden, even if you are a terrible manager of people, if not, you are pushed out. Many excellent leaders have been pushed out, or left due to the political environment. Seems like certain management are sticking around for the money, and are willing to sacrifice people at any expense. There is the sense that you need to run 100mph, or you won't be looked at favorably. Managers need to be more realistic in what is put on people's plates. And stop the "fire of the day" priorities.

Pros

Solid place to work, you'll be out the door at 5 every night. Most employees, especially the old timers, are nice midwesterners. The work is easy and pay is OK to competitive (of course this always depends on the individual's situation). You can't slack though as there are layoffs every/most years for bottom performers.

Cons

You don't need to be a business genius to see the writing on the wall for the cable industry. But that's OK, there is a healthy amount of turnover from people staying around to get a bit of experience and moving on. Management does not make it an issue.

Pros

Good midwestern ideas and culture built this company and provided decades worth of profitability and good jobs for a number of folks. Easy going and professional environment.

Cons

Good midwestern ideas and culture are leaving through the exits. Management has been searching for the new great thing for the last 10 years and has decided to let go of a lot of the things that made it great and bet on risky ventures. Acquisitions have failed to result in new revenue or business. Growth is flat + inflation +acquisition growth. No opportunity for growth.
