Pros

Relaxed schedule, can take time off if necessary. Good ability to be promoted early on. The office is personal and small enough that all of the workers are friends. Because the company is small, a determined person can learn a lot very fast and should expect to be promoted often in the beginning. Also, the size of the company means that you usually have reasonable access to the people above you, including the president of the company. The company does also have many intercompany functions like picnics, christmas party, golf outings, etc. CVL is a company that you can feel comfortable in very quickly.

Cons

Because of the small size, there are times when the work environment gets very stressful because there is more work load that there are people to handle it. This means occasionally there are some very long nights. Also, because the company is small, it is generally believed that every client is precious, which can often mean that the engineers in the office must sacrifice a lot of their extra time and endure a lot of stress at the whim of the client. The remaining downside is that the land development industry has too many consulting engineering companies in it. This allows the developers and builders to exploit the consultants and squeeze their margins down to almost nothing. This creates an environment where a young engineer will be given more and more responsibility with promotions, but will never really get paid very much. It feel like this is a good company to start out with, but a move will be necessary down the road if you ever want to make a respectable salary.
