Pros

One of the best reasons to work there is promotional opportunities. If you put forth the effort, and remain diligent, you will get promoted. From working a billion other jobs, don't expect CVS to be totally different. You scratch my back and make me look good, I will do the same for you. If you do bad, well things may not go the way you intend. But I love working for CVS because if the work ethic is there and you want to move up, the possiblities are endless. It may take sometime, because as you move up, the spots are not readily available, but a word from the right person can put you first in line.

Cons

The downside to working for CVS is the work/life balance. You very well can get the promotion and make the money, but you will be working a lot of hours. Managers are required to work at least 45 hours, and depending on the environment, easily 50-60 hours a week. Sometimes even more depending on how well your staff is. Another downside is your salary. I am happy with what I make, but I know of a few people who don't make the same and that makes me feel like if they can take advantage and get you at a salary below the minimum, they will. The only positive side to that is if you work in a busier store, you will make more money. A slower store, less money.

Pros

Short term job to gain experience. CVS training is well respected in retail world. Will also give first hand experience with dealing with people in general.

Cons

Lack of opportunities to advance, you will treated as a paid slave if you do have chance to advance. It is retail be prepared to work long hours, little pay and holidays you will work them too it's retail. As for Work/Life Balance expect to not have weekends off and to work odd hours. I've seen many familes break apart due to the work condintions we are under.

Pros

The opportunities for advancement are available. For example, most recently I have seen an assistant manager come aboard go through training and get his own store in six months. Recognition is done once a year and raises are given at this time. As a manager you do work in a nice environment and do control your own career fate if you want to advance, it is completely up to you and how hard you work. As a manager in store you are responsible to hire, train, and develop you employees. Your store could have a Minute Clinic which is a nice feature, if you don't feel well al you have to do is stop by. It is easy to take time off or vacation as long as it does not conflict with specific dates like time off around Christmas is harder to get. Working retail it isexpected though.

Cons

Many times you are your employee number. Just a number in the grand scheme of things. a manager it constantly feels like "big brother" is looking over your shoulder at all times. To me it takes away a managers ability to be creative and creates a box in which they must work in. It is hard to think outside of ths box. It is easy to be promoted in this company but it is pretty much based on who you know. If you know the right person then you are in like flint. With payrolls tight, asmnager you find yourself managing less and doing cashier and supervisor functions more.
