      Pros

      great people to work with. Learn lots about the latest outdoor gear from regular vendor training.

      Cons

      It's retail. No time off around the holidays. Full time outfitters have less rights than the part timers do.

      Pros

      Made a ton of friends and learned lots about the outdoors. Employees also got great deals on hunting gear. Cabelas is very accommodating for students to work part time during high school / university, which is great and the reason I worked there for 3 years. As well, they were very open to career advancement, and had online training for product knowledge available to staff. Cabelas also had many team building activities that staff were open to joining, and lots of opportunities to volunteer with community events, as Cabelas sponsored a lot. Overall it was a fun place to work and I really enjoyed my time there.

      Cons

      Typical retail things like "black out dates" for booking time off for Christmas was annoying, same with mandatory boxing day shifts. As well, management was hit or miss, since typically a lot of management did not have any management training and were simply promoted from outfitter.

      Some good deals to be had

      No chance of advancement unless you suck up all the time. They have a habit of keeping bad managers and letting actual managers go. They have no trouble throwing you under a bus yet don't recognize strong work ethic. They have taken away almost all the good reasons to work there. I am glad I got it when I did. I saw a great company get treated like crap and spiral down. From a Grand Opening as I've never seen before, to bring run by a group of idiots. An operations manager that doesn't camp fish hunt or stay outdoors. Let's hope the merger with Bass pro gets rid of some of these people and back up where it belongs
