Pros

If you are into outdoor activities, it's a good place to get an employee discount on needed gear. The other hourly outfitters are nice to work with.

Cons

Many marriages and families have been stressed to the breaking point because of all the hours expected to be worked by members of management. This store has only been opened two years and they are already on their third store manager. Regional managers have high egos, they don't want excuses (even though they are caused by corporate) and they don't talk to hourly employees. Hourly employees have had their employee discount reduced, number of hours reduced, and yet more work is expected to be accomplished. Not all job openings get posted (because they already know who is going to fill the position) and not all job candidates get interviewed. Cabela's is not willing to work around anyone's schedule unless you are a student. They are quick to let an employee go when the employee gets on the human resource manager's black list (bad side). Training is severely lacking in this store and has since day one. Communication from corporate to the store is confusing with no one taking responsibility for the mix ups. Cabela's has a lot to learn about the south and what kind of product to put in this store. Requests to carry certain items have fallen on deaf ears and this store was later told, "You never requested that." Cabela's was supposed to improve their advertising but old bill boards remain and I still only receive Bass Pro's ad in my mailbox. There is much talk about the high turn over rate with the "veteran" outfitters counting down who's left. Only five original managers are still there out of the original eighteen or so. When the hurricane came through last year, several employees lost their homes, but yet during the holidays, all employees were asked to donate money to Dick and Mary Cabela without even a thought of those who lost everything in the storm. Cabela's is not family oriented and they have strayed from their "Superior Customer Service" that was originally their strong point.
