Pros

- Good benefits. (Health, dental, vision, vacation, etc)

Cons

- Lack of employee recognition for hard work and/or accomplishments. There is no reward for merit. - Lack of age diversity in the organization. Over 50% of the organization is over 50 years of age and there have not been significant number of new hires in almost 10 years. - Many mid-level engineers are still doing the work that entry level engineers should be doing because there are no new hires to train to take over the work. Promotional opportunities are also rare. - Promotional exams give advantage to people with more years of experience regardless of quality of experience or job performance.

Pros

Good place to work when times are bad. Good place to work if you don't live along the California Coast. OK place to work if you have a family. Good benefits.

Cons

Becoming increasingly political and less technical. New highways are becoming less common. Not adapting to modern times well at all. Very risk adverse and little or no incentive to push yourself technically.
