Fast moving, super smart but struggling with sand-box politics.

Pros

The company culture is very family-values oriented and adjusts to how you feel and what is going on in your life. Another good reason to work there is it is packed with smart and friendly people. It is both progressive and conservative. It's progressive in its outlook on technology and education. And it is conservative in a corporate sort of way. It is fast-paced, but it explores design and development in iterations.

Cons

Even though they like to think they have teams made up of members of different departments, the silos are firm and protect their own political interests. In some cases there are inter-departmental rivalries that can cause a great deal of frustration. Gossip and emotional reactions can sometimes really be depressing.

My immediate team is a good one

Pros

I enjoy working with my direct team members. I also get along well with my immediate bosses, whom are intelligent people and truly do have the best interests of our customers at heart.

Cons

I feel some of the directions upper management has taken recently is a bit short-sided, and does not include sufficient feedback/input from those "in the trenches."

Pros

Some great talent in authorship and products. Decent benefits. There WAS great leadership before Cambium acquired the Sopris West company in 2002, but it continued in a downward spiral until Voyager acquired Cambium in 2010. They are now on the fast track to failing miserably. Such a sad ending to a company that was built on wonderful people.

Cons

Incompetent management at the executive level, general disregard for real talent, very sad and toxic morale. The technology is stuck in the dark ages (they still sell and product There is a general sense of apathy among the editorial groups, who don't play well together. There are layoffs of wonderfully talented people. And the other talented ones quickly realize how dysfunctional the place is and get the heck out. Work there if you don't care to spend your days doing something fulfilling and interesting.
