Pros

- respectful collaboration between teams - great company culture - great benefits like e.g. FTO (Flexible Time Off), yearly retreat etc. - good compensation packages including VSOP

Cons

The Offboarding process was/is a mess; unfortunately, some team members of the people team don't understand what it means to 'let people go' with respect. This includes employees that chose to leave the company. Still they were (maybe still are) treated like they never achieved anything and contributed to the companies success.

Pros

- The technology is really good. - CEO seems intelligent and clearly cares about the company and people. - Company culture overall is kind, innovative and fast moving.

Cons

- Poor team management. - Lack of real experience within the senior leadership, leading to odd (not industry standard at all) and ineffective decisions as well as questionable setting of company direction. - As you'd expect in a start-up, work pressure and expectations are high. People are burning out and there doesn't seem to be a long term reward as you'd also expect.

Great company with ongoing challenges

Pros

- There is a significant change underway in the company. - A real remote-first company with mature practices, where you can adjust working hours to achieve high productivity and flexibility. - The pay scale is pretty good (but sometimes it's inconsistent). - The engineers and people in general are friendly and are doing a good job from a technical and cultural point of view. - The product is excellent and promising, and fills a real business gap in the market. - There is a good space for growth as an IC (only if you want to; no one will run after it).

Cons

- There is a significant change underway in the company (yes, that's the same one in the pros; it depends on how you look at it and what your goals are). - Middle management is way underperforming. It's pure luck where you get good PM/EM or not. In most cases, PMs/EMs come from software enginering and don't have much experience in management. The PMs/EMs most of the time work in the same way they used to as ICs. The real issue is that the company lacks methods to ensure that middle management improves over time. - Many reviews here discussed the strategy, but in reality, a bigger problem is the tactics! If everything is important, then nothing is! Missing the basics of the trade-offs can lead to either unnecessary chaos or frustration (you can't have your cake and eat it!). - The interviews have some inconsistencies and don't measure what should be measured. The company has changed a lot, yet the core of the interviews remains the same, resulting in candidates who don't fit (they are not necessarily bad, but aren't aligned with the current phase). - The CEO is a good and authentic leader for his role, but he really needs some guidance! For months, the company had a lot of fuss just because he couldn't find proper wording to say the company is changing (even though it's true and makes sense, but the word selection was really bad). This is no longer a German company, but an international one.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We truly value your feedback, as it helps us reflect and improve. It’s wonderful to hear that our fully remote culture, flexible practices, and product impact are resonating with you. Your feedback on the interview process is especially timely. We’ve recently reviewed and are updating our engineering interview process to level up our interviewing as well as to ensure they reflect the skills and behaviors needed to elevate our capabilities, at this stage of Camunda's growth. We’re also investing in middle management development to provide clearer guidance, better support, and growth opportunities for our teams. Thank you again for sharing your perspective!
