Thanks for sharing your experience with us! If you haven’t already, we encourage you to have a conversation with your supervisor about your workload. Because our industry is so fast paced, we realize there’s always a lot going on, but we don’t want anyone to feel consumed with work or feel obligated to work excessive hours. It would also be good for you to share your salary thoughts with your supervisor. Our salaries are competitive and talking with your supervisor should provide more context and answer any questions you may have regarding pay. Thanks for contributing your talents to CannonDesign!

Some good, some bad

Pros

Some of the people you work with create a great environment The projects can be interesting, and always provide different challenges There are a wide variety of projects to work on Better work/life than many other AE firms Salaries tend to be a bit higher than industry averages

Cons

For an integrated firm, coordination is a real struggle Hierarchy is unclear. There are a lot of "VP of _____" and it isn't clear who reports to whom. This results in direction coming from many different people at once. They take a lot of pride in training through the "Cannon Academy" but it is mostly geared towards ARE exams, and not in-depth training. Senior leadership tends to be absent a lot, which would be fine, except when they are away, they want you to make decisions and keep projects moving, but when they have time to look at a project, they tend to demand changes (even if those decisions were made early on in the project.) Tend to focus on the "initiative of the week" what we're supposed to focus on tends to change regularly PTO and holidays are less than typical in the industry

Some of the challenges you’ve identified are important issues we hope you feel comfortable bringing up with your supervisor.
